New stuff happenneen 'roun here. More and more dudes wanting to get sleeved...But they seem to want to try and patch it all together from flash :roll: and Girls wanting "something" coming from the top of thier hip and up thier waist..."Something". Thanks to TV programming people are learning about such coverage. Looks like it finally making the fashion trend, here in these parts. Not that I'm complaining...It would be nice if folks were motivated by something other than t.v. and what looks "cute". Oh well...gotta pay them bills.

Heh, at least you get people ripping your door down asking for sleeves. The almighty tribal armband and lowerback butterfly reigns supreme here.
Sometimes ppl are open to other ideas, they just don't know it. That's when we stop being artists for a second, shake what our mommas gave us, and show off what we can do!
Usually people just need another option to generate their own motivation.

To be honest I get a lot of just legal age young uns commin to me for tribal...and I always try to show them wat else is available.....I think lack of knowledge and the pervesion of the art of tattooing as a god damn fashion statement is blocking all these sheep like peoples vision on wat you can do with the human skin

I would think the new trendy stuff would be like the black light tattoos. Those look awesome! I found a couple at www.cooltattooclub.com. As long as the design is cool, it should look killer under a black light.

I am a Tattoo Artist that specializes in Blacklight Tattoo's. In Miami Beach they seem to be the "new thing" however on the West Coast (Oregon) we have been using it for over 8 years. With alot of experience they come out VERY cool indeed! The South Beach clubs will be glowing in no time :)

Color portraits are getting to be really popular now that the spotlight has found artists such as Niko and Darrin white. I personally dont think i have the skill to pull off something like that but hopefully someday ill be able to work with somebody that can show me how its done, cuz they look like alot of fun. now the only question is "how will they hold up?"

I can't get over how realistic tattoos are getting these days, some of the portrait work is so detailed, things that tattoo artists would never even imagined 10-15 years ago, I love how they just keep pushing the boundaries.

Starting to see more skull-related tattoos among the mainstream. See a lot of kids get sleeved-up with poor artwork...tattoos have definitely penetrated the masses, but good artwork has not. No point in having a ton of tattoos, if they all look crappy five to ten years down the line.

man, i havent done tribal in forever (thank god).

seems like the trends go like this..

Street Shop:
1. whatevers on any celebrity on tv who got it within a month.
2. tramp stamps (slowly going out of style)
3. skank flanks (from hip up the ribs)

Custom Shop:
Whatever you want to do using their idea as a foundation.

Conventions:
2007. NeoTraditional
2008. NeoTrad - Color Portraits
2009. Color Portraits
2009-2010? New school, graffiti, BioMech

i prefer custom, but conventions get me pumped and inspired, and give me an idea of what people are going to be asking for throughout the next year.

Now the trend of getting tattooed is catching up among the people, especially the youths. There are several types of tattoos that people like to get on their skin, like Sword, Skulls, and Dragons, among females flower tattoo are most popular. Almost all the women who come to our tattoo artists for a tattoo ask about floral designs, because not only they look beautiful and colorful but also illustrate the feminism.

Some general trend I have seen recently:
Too damn many Koi!
Fall leaves
Negative space work

I seem to be getting lots of dreamcatchers. Hates 'em like fairies! Drew up idea for "nightmare catcher" in self-defense!

I think it's great that more and more people are getting inked, but it's a shame that people want the same thing over and over.
